Marquetry on a André-Charles Boulle panel made of Brass on Tortoise Shell, XVIIIth century period (original).
Restoration of Brass and Tortoise Shell parts. New shape is made with salvage parts from old and destroyed furniture of the same period).
The original plans of this kind of drawing are transmitted from generation to generation of Marquetry makers. By way of them its possible to re-edit and restore beautiful pieces of furniture...

i have a secretary that i believe is authentic Boulle, it looks exactly like the image above...I am extremely interested in restoring it - though it is in remarkably good condition despite its advanced age. can you point me in the right direction?

This is incredible, absolutely beautiful work. I'd love to learn how to do this o.o Where do you even learn such a skill?

Oh, thanks very much for your compliment. There is a famous school in Paris (Ecole Boulle), where you can learn the marquetry tradition and technic. After, ist a question of experience, practice and imagination...

It'd be incredibly cool but alas I'm on the state-side of the pond... Maybe if I end up moving to germany one day I'll make a stop in paris hehehe I'm pretty well inclined to that sort of meticulous insanity, I have a feeling I'd enjoy doing it. As of right now I throw pottery and then carve more than half of it away into intricate patterns. Its in my gallery if you'd like to take a look :)
